How Air Filtration Affects Your Health

In the age of COVID and its variants, air filtration matters more than ever. The EPA (Environmental Protection Agency) found that proper usage of air cleaners and HVAC filters can help reduce airborne contaminants, including viruses, in a building. While an air filtration solution is not enough to defend from COVID-19, when used along with other practices it can reduce the airborne transmission indoors.

At Best Mechanical, we offer a range of air filtration solutions to help maintain a healthy environment in buildings new and old, from office building to assisted-living facilities. Some of the solutions to consider include: Bipolar Ionization, Ultraviolet Light Systems, Polarized Glass Media Systems and V8 Filter Cleaning Systems.

Bipolar Ionization helps when paired with an air filtration system by eliminating viruses, bacteria and odors. It generates positively and negatively charged particles, and the ions pull hydrogen away from a pathogen. In the case of a virus for example, the virus cannot infect without the hydrogen in its protein coat.

Ultraviolet Light Systems are scientifically proven to kill of mold, airborne bacteria and other microscopic pollutants when part of an air filtration system. Short-wave UV lights (UVGi) tend to be effective for germicidal properties, and are installed with either coil sterilization or air sterilization.

Polarized Glass Media Systems incorporate LED technology to capture airborne particles using efficient and low-static pressure. These systems disinfect, reduce odors, remove mold and other contaminants. The glass is treated with anti-microbial coatings that also helps prevent contamination, and short-term maintenance.

V8 Filter Cleaning Systems provide a MERV 15 rating.  MERV (Minimum Efficiency Reporting Values) ratings are a good way to understand the effectiveness of a filter on a scale from one to 16. V8 Filter systems capture ultrafine particles without generating Ozone. The system has the longest maintenance cycle which results in less material use, energy cost savings, and a smaller environmental footprint.
