As we welcome the changes that 2022 brings, we’re proud to welcome an addition in our office. Kris Plamann is the newest member of the Best Mechanical team. We sat down with her to get to know her a bit better—here’s what she had to say:
Tell us about your prior industry experience.
I was a Sales and Marketing executive in the engineering and construction industry for the past 2+ decades. I was fortunate to grow up in the industry—my father had his own business—and I’m grateful for the connections and relationships I’ve made throughout the years!
What’s your favorite thing about working in this industry?
My dad owned a mechanical contracting company and I remember riding my tricycle around the shop when I was around five years old. I grew up learning about the projects and all the facets of running a company. I love meeting with partners and customers – especially when they are genuine and have a strong work ethic.
What has a typical day for you as the Director of Sales and Marketing looked like so far?
Catching up with as many industry friends as possible and getting to know the strengths of the company and the employees.
What are you most passionate about at work?
Developing strong relationships/friendships with associates and colleagues that last a lifetime. I have friends and contacts around the country and even throughout the world… and those relationships are what’s most important to me.
What’s one thing you wish you could tell your younger self?
Honestly, I feel we are always learning and growing no matter our age. So, I don’t feel I know better than I did when I was younger. I might know more, but I’ve always been the same (work-wise), wanting to contribute to the companies I work for using my personal strengths (growing strong relationships) and making the world a better place. I continue to appreciate and enjoy every day.
What’s something that most people don’t know about you?
I rode Space Mountain (the ride at Disney) with Michael Jackson in the early 2000s. I walked off the ride with him, his son and my daughter while everyone else was behind the ropes with cameras, screaming his name. I stood next to him and put my hand on his shoulder and said “Hello,” and he said “Hello” back. It was pretty cool!
What book are you reading, or what podcast are you listening to at the moment?
Just starting Zen Mind, Beginner’s Mind.
What activities do you enjoy in your spare time?
I am a HUGE golfer, and I love traveling and experiencing new places and meeting people. I also love live music and other events. I have a cottage up north and enjoy the North Woods sometimes, too. I also have had foreign exchange students while my kids went through school. And I love watching my son’s basketball games (college basketball now).
What are some things that excite you for 2022—personally and professionally?
I feel like it’s going to be a great year personally and professionally. I’m excited to be working with a great group of people in an exciting industry. I’m very hopeful we will be able to get back to being able to get together for events and trade shows and even in- person meetings!
